Message from the Headmistress

dsc_0042Sydenham High School is an independent day school for girls aged 4-18 with a long-standing tradition of educating girls, dating back to 1887. What makes us distinctly different is the value we place on the individual and the way our motto Fear Nothing lies at the heart of all we do in preparing our students for their futures.

At Sydenham High we believe in the primacy of the classroom. Creating an aspirational environment for our pupils is one of our foremost aims; we are a small but high-achieving school. The provision of a first-class education is paramount, and at Sydenham High we strive to ensure that every girl reaches her full academic potential by overcoming her weaknesses and harnessing her strengths. Self-belief and happiness, alongside a ‘can do’ approach to every aspect of school life, enable our girls to thrive and succeed. We believe our pupils deserve nothing less than the highest standards of classroom practice in a nurturing and inclusive environment where they can learn to be independent, resilient and free from the fear of failure. Our excellent pastoral care and small class sizes ensure no one is allowed to slip through the net, while our exciting and enriching co-curricular programme provides every pupil with exceptional learning opportunities beyond the classroom.

A Sydenham High education not only prepares our young people for university and future employment, but also gives them the necessary skills and confidence to succeed, prosper and be happy in their future lives. Girls at Sydenham High are open-minded and possess an inner strength and the necessary self-belief to exceed all expectations. Our girls are well rounded and come from a broad range of backgrounds to create a vibrant community.  They are fun, down to earth, ambitious and a whole lot more.

Sydenham High is a school bursting with warmth, creativity, talent and, above all, excellence in all that we do.
