Journalism Challenge Day

edit

National newspaper editor, Pete Henshaw led a Journalism Challenge day for five GDST schools at Sydenham High School.

Seven year 9 students from Putney, Blackheath, Sutton and Streatham &Clapham and Sydenham worked in design, editorial and reporting teams to produce an education newspaper featuring articles of interest to teenagers.  The reporting teams developed and researched stories, conducted interviews and organised photography while the design team constructed the newspaper and took editorial roles.

The Bell  went to press at the end of the day with  articles evaluating the EBacc, the role of music in learning, anorexia and self-esteem and a debate on the advantages of taking GCSEs early.

The girls had a taste of the pressures and work of a newsroom as well as learning how they coped in unfamiliar circumstances.
