54 year 10 girls spent the weekend walking and camping in the Kent countryside for their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh award.

This was a particularly challenging weekend as the weather was so hot (but preferable to the recent rain). Saturday turned into a very long day. There was the early start in Detling at 8.30am and some teams did not turn up at the campsite until 7pm; a combination of map reading errors as well as the long rests needed in the scorching sunshine.

The campsite was busy with girls putting up tents, tending to blisters and cooking before an early bedtime. The Sunday trek from Bexon Lane to Charing was even more challenging. The girls were encouraged on their way at checkpoints by staff – who took the opportunity to complete some marking in the sunshine.

The girls did well to complete the challenging course and are looking forward to their next expedition.
