Victory for Shirreff!
The gloomy forecast and weather didn’t dampen spirits on Sports Day. Despite regular showers girls competed with gusto for the House Sports trophy and the Vitrix Ludorum, the individual sports shield.
We marked this Olympic year by starting with teachers and students running a torch relay from school to the sportsground through Sydenham. At the sportsground, Asha Williams, our head girl read the Olympic oath before Mrs Pullen declared our games open.
House captains led their teams around the track in a celebratory march before the competitions began. House spirit was strong as they competed in most of the track and field events (only the high jump was cancelled). The walking races were the most challenging with a number of disqualifications for girls who just couldn’t resist breaking into a jog!
There was a dance interlude at lunch with the houses showing off the Big Dance routines they have been practising this term.
As the day came to an end the rain stopped and sun shone for the final trophy presentation.
