We’re getting spellbound!

On 5 February pupils’ linguistic skills will be put to the test as we take part in a regional heat for the GDST Foreign Language Spelling Bee.

Year 8 and Year 9 pupils will be going head-to-head with girls from four other GDST schools from across the country, to prove their language skills.  They will be tested on the spelling and pronunciation of 90 words in rounds in five different languages – French, German, Spanish, Latin and Mandarin.

The heat is one of four taking place across the country in the next week, involving 21 schools and over 370 pupils.

The winning teams will go through to the final at Howell’s School in Cardiff on 5 March, where they will be tested on 140 words in each language.   The competition is one of a series of activities to mark the GDST’s 140th Anniversary which is being celebrated this year.

We’ve been practising non-stop so fingers crossed the hard work pays off!
