Eating in style: New Dining Hall and Cafe opens to students and staff

edit

Students and staff have had their first full meal in the school’s wonderful new glass orangery café and refurbished historic Dining Hall when it opened yesterday (Wednesday 18 March).

Headteacher Kathryn Pullen officially ‘cut the ribbon’ with Catering Manager John Pearson as the first eager diners from Junior School arrived to have their lunch.
There was a definite ‘thumbs up’ as the girls tucked into their lunch and, as word spread down the line of waiting diners, more girls opted for the hot meal choices.

New menus have been on trial during the last half term and are now being fully introduced with additional, healthy options.  Yesterday’s menu was:-
Oven-cooked breast of chicken with asparagus, roasted sage potatoes and vegetables or a garden salad
Thai noodles with coriander and honey or
Tuna and egg salad
For dessert there was a choice of fruit meringue, fresh fruit salad, yogurts or fresh fruit.
Students and staff were also clearly delighted by the bigger, more airy dining environment and new flexible seating arrangements which include breakfast bars around some of the walls and café style banquettes in the alcoves.
The expanded serving area allows for three lines of diners which, along with a more streamlined payment area, should ensure a swifter and easier traffic flow at lunchtimes once everyone gets used to the new arrangements.
