Our sixthformers in year 12 have started their Stretch options for the summer term. Stretch is a timetabled enrichment programme which provides students with the opportunity to learn new skills and pursue new and existing interests.

A group of seven students went to TNG for Rock Climbing where they will be encouraged in climbing technique and climbing safety over the coming weeks. Some of the students were particularly nervous about heights but after a few attempts, and reassurance from the coach and the safety ropes, they had the courage to reach the top and touch the ceiling.

This is a great team building exercise as the students encourage each other and are really supportive relying on one another to hold the safety ropes. At the end of the 2 hour session the students were tired and aching. The following morning several had aching shoulders and forearms!

In the next session they aim to get the hang of abseiling down.

Another group have started a photography course with photography teacher Alex Harwood,who is an artist and facilitator in various community and public health service settings. The students went to Crystal Palace Park where they were looking for examples of framing a photograph through nature. Students will be learning to use photoshop to manipulate their photos and a display will be put up in school with their finished pieces.
