Year 11 achieve a bumper crop of GCSE results - Sydenham High School

Year 11 achieve a bumper crop of GCSE results

edit

Year 11 and their families joined staff in the Orangery this morning, anxious to discover whether all their hard work over the past two years had paid off. We are delighted that this cohort has achieved a fantastic set of results, with over two thirds of grades being awarded an 8 or 9 (A or A*), and over one third the top grade.

Ten pupils were awarded straight 8 or 9s and the results overall are the strongest for Sydenham High in the last five years. Considering that the exams are said to be even tougher, with the new 9-1 system being introduced, this is an excellent result and testament to the dedication of our pupils and staff.

The shrieks of delight echoed around the dining hall as the girls congratulated each other and thoughts turned to their futures at sixth form. We look forward to welcoming them back in September.

Headmistress Katharine Woodcock said:

It has been such a wonderful morning seeing so many delighted faces  – especially those who surpassed their own expectations. As a year group they have been such a big part of the Sydenham High community and I am very proud of each and every pupil for the journey they have been on so far. I can only imagine that greater things are to follow as they make the leap to sixth form and beyond. A proud day for us all here at Sydenham High; congratulations to our year 11 and my heartfelt thanks to their teachers.
