To complement and support their preparations for the upcoming year 6 production of A Midsummer’s Night Dream, year 6 spent the day at London’s Globe Theatre on Wednesday. Pupils spent time taking a tour of the famous theatre and finding out how it was used by theatregoers in Elizabethan times compared with today. In addition, the pupils took part in a Shakespearean workshop all about A Midsummer’s Night Dream which will no doubt have inspired their performance rehearsals.
Did you know the play portrays the events surrounding the marriage of Theseus, the Duke of Athens, to Hippolyta, the former queen of the Amazons? These include the adventures of four young Athenian lovers and a group of six amateur actors who are controlled and manipulated by the fairies who inhabit the forest in which most of the play is set. We cannot wait to see how Y6 retell the tale at the Westwood Theatre later this month.
