Curioso 2021 develops life skills

edit

Curioso is a bespoke programme for years 7 – 9, designed to provide pupils with exciting learning opportunities and experiences, delivered as a series of enriching events. The idea behind Curioso – launched in 2019 –  is to engage pupils in a challenging and engaging way that extends and enthuses their curricular appreciation, to further develop pupil employability skills and competencies, to engage pupils in thinking about potential careers in the future and to give pupils experience of university style teaching and learning.

Pupils participated in a series of one day workshops that gave them a chance to expand their horizons, deep dive into some new topics and triggered their curiosity to learn more about the world around them. As part of this years series, year 7 responded to Caryl Churchill’s Love and Information by writing and performing their own vignettes based on either Body, Mind or Soul. They then worked on their entrepreneurial skills designing and marketing a new subscription box. Meanwhile,  Y8 participated in a Classics and Drama collaboration, exploring the Greek tragedy Medea and bringing the story to life through illustration and Greek choral work. Geography and Science came together to challenge year 9 with workshops and activities relating to sustainable development based around the film The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind. A week later, year 7 also had their first taste of Model United Nations. By role-playing meetings like the Security Council and General Assembly, year 7 had a unique insight into how the United Nations works, researching, debating and trying to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems!
