Grey scoop victory at Sports Day 2021 - Sydenham High School

Grey scoop victory at Sports Day 2021

edit

We were lucky enough to see the sun make a return for what turned out to be an amazing day for Senior Sports Day on Wednesday 23 June 2021. With the music blaring through the speakers and energy at a high level, we managed to pull off a fun-filled day with every pupil giving their all in their respective events and Grey finishing as the overall winners. A massive thank you has to be given to Ms Matthews and the P.E Department for all their hard work in putting together a day that was both enjoyable and COVID-safe after what has been a trying year in difficult circumstances. In aid of The Bone Cancer Research Trust, we will be raising money until the end of term towards what is most definitely a worthy cause.

The Trust celebrates its 15-year anniversary this year and as we do every year, the money raised is in memory of two Sydenham High pupils who tragically suffered with bone cancer and passed away during their time at school –  Rose, who attended the Prep School and died in 2010 just before her ninth birthday, and Lottie who was in year 13 and also sadly passed away in 2010. If you would like to support this cause, please do so here: https://www.justgiving.com/bcrt

Unlike previous years, due to the restrictions parents were not allowed to attend and year group bubbles were in place as opposed to house tents. That didn’t stop the buzz and excitement pulsating through our Worsley Bridge Road sports ground though! Some events were unable to take place such as the staff vs sixth form relay race and the tug of war, but that didn’t take away anything from the day. We did get a staff race (of sorts) organised by Mr Wagg which was good fun to witness, with some teachers taking it more seriously than others.

From the usual track and field events to events like Boccia, as is always the case, the Sydenham Spirit was in full force and contributed towards what was an enjoyable day all around!

Final scores for the day were:

1st – Grey 1508

2nd – Stanley 1427

3rd – Shirreff 1417

4th – Gurney 1304
