Computer Science pupils attend Women of Silicon event

edit

Organised by our Computer Science Department, a group of our budding Computer Scientists in Year 9 and 12 visited the ExCel London to explore more about the subject and hear from powerful industry heavyweights and their journey through technology as part of the “Women of Silicon” event.

Students were thrilled to speak to many different Tech companies and were given an insight into the need for women in technology. They spoke to different software development and engineering companies, asking lots of questions about their daily job. Students were also given a talk about cybersecurity, AI, using Tech in finance, gaming, Tech in travel, retail and what they all entail.

All the companies were amazed to see young girls who were visiting the exhibition for the first time have so many discovery questions, and our students unanimously concluded: “It was AMAZING” and were the lucky recipients of some goody bags too!

“It was very interesting to learn about the different kinds of things in computer science also the free stuff was also very nice, so i think it would be cool to do this next year too” – Prashamni

I think the conference was really enjoyable and I really learnt about the subject that I am planning to take for GCSE and also a potential career. I never would have realised that tech appears so much in businesses such as John Lewis, Waitrose and AstraZeneca so that was a particularly interesting thing to discover. I would recommend this trip to future year groups and other people who are interested in computer science.” – Trinity

“I think the trip was really good and I would recommend it for next year. I enjoyed hearing from a range of different companies about computer science and their jobs. also, all the free products.” – Florence

“I found his trip very exciting and fascinating. It got me thinking about a career in computer engineering. It was very educational and fun. I would 100% recommend this to other years and I would definitely go again. Meeting important people and talking to them about a career I am interested in was very inspirational. Thank you for the experience. – Lara
