Head Of Physics Wins Volunteering Award For Celebrating Women in Science

edit

As part of the Natural History Museum team, who won the London region of the Marsh Awards, our newly appointed Head of Physics, Miss Inchenko recently attended the overall Awards at the British Museum. The award was for volunteering in 2021 and recognised the commitment of volunteers through a difficult period of time for volunteering with the impacts of covid.

Each year both the British Museum and the Marsh Charitable Trust recognise the contribution of volunteers across the United Kingdom through the Volunteers for Museum Learning Award. The award celebrates the achievements and contribution of volunteers in museums, galleries and heritage sites all over the United Kingdom, recognising their dedication, innovation and excellence in engaging with the public.  Winners of the twelve regional awards each received a £500 prize, while the overall national winner received an additional £2000.

Miss Inchenko was a member of the Learning Volunteer team who developed and now deliver the Highlighting Histories: Women in Science tours at the Natural History Museum – a free experience telling some inspiring stories of women in the industry from various time periods throughout history. While she didn’t win the overall competition she commented that, “attending the awards was a fantastic opportunity to see the wealth of volunteering that takes place across the UK and the overall winners were volunteers from a phenomenal project to restoration the Cambrian Heritage Railway.”
