Culture and Diversity Day 2023 - Sydenham High School

Culture and Diversity Day 2023

edit

Our Young Leadership Team rounded off the end of the Spring term by leading our annual Culture and Diversity Day, where pupils were encouraged to wear clothes that represented their cultural roots.

At lunchtime we had a wonderful array of cuisine from Egypt, Jamaica and Croatia, inspired by the heritage of our own catering staff. A vibrant cultural fair was also a popular lunchtime destination where pupils and staff shared stories, traditions, photographs and clothing and even had the opportunity to have a traditional henna tattoo.

In the afternoon we were treated to an inspirational performance from award-winning musician, storyteller and educator, Usifu Jalloh.  His roots in multicultural Sierra Leone, and his long standing and close association with artists and audiences from a wide range of cultures, created for us a performance that encompassed international languages, music, dance and story themes.

To end the day we held a celebration of culture and diversity, as pupils and staff took to the stage in our lively traditional fashion show. It was a wonderful way to end the term, full of so much community warmth and spirit to head into the Easter Break!
