Modern Languages and Latin Festival for our linguists - Sydenham High School

Modern Languages and Latin Festival for our linguists

edit

Some of our Year 7s, 8s and 9s attended a Modern Languages and Latin festival at Notting Hill & Ealing GDST School, enabling pupils to engage with languages in many different ways through the range of activities on offer.

Pupils participated in a Spelling Bee, Murder Mystery and Treasure Hunt, while the older year groups took part in movie-making and dramatic performance. They listened to keynote speaker Paula Beegan (Trinity College Cambridge) giving them a window into how languages create adventures as she spoke about the various avenues that foreign languages have allowed her to explore, from teaching in Mexico to working at UNESCO.

Honing their linguistic skills, Year 10 produced the winning film in the Spanish movie making session with a spooky tale, while our Year 9s won both the Spanish and the Italian role-play prizes for their outstanding scripts and on-stage performances.  Meanwhile, Year 7s and Year 8s battled it out in the spelling bee (which Year 8 won) with Alex being filmed showing her spelling skills in French.
