It was a morning full of excitement as our Year 11 pupils celebrated their GCSE results with friends, family and teachers. We are incredibly proud of our pupils’ results, with a large proportion achieving at least a grade or more over their predictions. With headlines of 62.4% of GCSEs graded A*/A (9-7) and 85% A*-B (9-6), there was such a joyous atmosphere all round. As top universities frequently judge students on their ‘best 8’ GCSEs, we are delighted to see a third of our pupils gaining all A*/A by this measure.
The school witnessed excellence across the range of subjects showcasing the diversity, creativity and variety of interests and expertise. Our Sciences, once again, saw outstanding results with 86% A*/A (9-7) in Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Our Modern Languages department was delighted to receive 78% A*/A in French, Spanish, Italian and German. Humanities continue to thrive with Geography receiving 86% A*/A, History 72% and Religious Studies 75%.
Whilst results were available online, some pupils waited until arriving at school to open their envelopes and discover their results. It was a heart-warming sight to see their hard work pay off and the realisation that they are now embarking on their next adventure in Sixth Form!
“We are so pleased to celebrate with our pupils and their families their successes at GCSE. I am delighted to see their academic ability recognised but, equally, their dedication and grit rewarded. I am confident that our girls will go on to thrive at A Level, building on this success, alongside their strength of character and courage.”

Parents and pupils congratulated each other in the Orangery over breakfast, excitedly talking about their plans for A Level and beyond. Megan and Maia had the following to say about their outstanding results:
Megan (left) all A*/A : “I am so happy with my results. The teachers have been very supportive, providing extra help during lunchtimes and after school. I would especially like to thank Dr Wallace; she made History the most interesting and fun subject. She is the best!”
Maia (right) all A*/A: “I am also very happy with my results and grateful to all the supportive teachers. Dr Waites has been especially supportive and helpful throughout. I would also like to thank Ms Belardo, who helped me achieve such a great result in Italian.”
We really value the connection between school and families and had such positive feedback from parents, including:
We are so happy with our daughter’s exam results – she is really looking forward to sixth form at Sydenham High. She loves all her teachers and knows they’ll keep supporting her through her A Levels. She is also delighted that she can still do all her favourite clubs and activities!
After two years of hard work, we are delighted that our Year 11 pupils have achieved such outstanding results in their GCSEs! We look forward to welcoming them as they begin Sixth Form with us!
