BUILDING DEVELOPMENT

In 2026. our school community will benefit a new entrance building including makers spaces, gallery and classrooms, as well as a purpose built Sixth Form Centre with separate access.

Exciting Developments at Sydenham High
After a thorough and collaborative process with the GDST, Lewisham Council, and our design, architectural, and construction teams, onsite work commenced on 31 March 2024, with our plans progressing as expected.

Since the start of the Spring term, all staff and pupils have been using the new access gate on Amberley Grove as part of the transition to the next phase of development. These arrangements will remain in place until the building work is completed.

The initial works will focus on:

  • Completion of ground floor slab to entrance building
  • Commencement of Lodge building Façade and roof repairs
  • Lodge extension roof and floor works
  • SFS walls to the lodge building
  • Steel Frame to the Entrance building

We look forward to seeing how this transformative project will enhance our school. We sincerely appreciate the continued understanding and support of our community and neighbours, both so far and in advance.

Our contractor, Beard, will work closely with us to ensure smooth progress, and we will regularly update this page to keep everyone informed. Should you have any questions, please contact us at Development@syd.gdst.net, and our team will be happy to assist.

Thank you once again for your patience and understanding. While we acknowledge that this is a lengthy process, we remain committed to minimising disruption wherever possible.

Dear Neighbours

Sydenham High School is undertaking a significant project to transform our facilities and create a more purposeful learning environment for our pupils. We are incredibly grateful for your continued support and understanding throughout this process. As the project has now been underway since March 2025, we are pleased to report that progress is on track and proceeding as planned.

Please click here for the latest newsletter from our construction partner, Beard, who will be keeping us updated as the project progresses.

To ensure the smooth running of both the school day and the construction work, we have provided clear guidance to our parents and visitors to avoid parking or driving down Amberley Grove. This is to prevent congestion and ensure the safety of pupils, staff, and members of the public. Staff are stationed every morning and evening at the access gates and the top of the road to encourage good practice. A senior member of staff is present at the gate during these times.
