HEAD'S VISION
At Sydenham High, we believe that learning should be adventurous and fun. Joyful voices resound in our classrooms and corridors. This is a happy community – active and alive to the potential within each school day.
Our pioneering spirit, forged by our brave founders whose anglo-saxon motto, Nyle ye drede (fear nothing) underpins our ethos: forward thinking and curious, embracing experimentation and innovation.
This journey from the magic of our Reception classrooms to the sparky debate resonating from our Upper School spaces, encompasses three key pillars of thought to develop each individual as a whole person, well prepared for life in mind, body and soul.
Academic Expertise
Our education is designed in all areas to offer intellectual challenge and creative opportunity, championing purposeful, flexible young minds and growing confidence. Our expert teachers are engaged, skilful practitioners, lifelong learners and committed to impactful relationships with each child, understanding individual needs.
We believe that creativity and excellence flourishes when young girls are inspired, given the space to explore, and, importantly, feel that their individual achievements matter. Our curriculum is contemporary and relevant, with dynamic, independent learning opportunities. We embrace dialogue and debate, academic risk-taking and inquiry. We are fully engaged with new technologies, including harnessing the potential of AI, but not swayed by every fad.
Personal Development
We are all about whole personhood – building the strongest version of ourselves. Our community is unapologetically committed to empowering girls to build the skillset needed to navigate their world and their futures. We believe in the power of collective voices: a strong ‘we’ is notable at Sydenham High, borne out of achieving the right balance between individual confidence and a culture of care.
Our personal development programmes are bespoke – designed with wellbeing in mind and sensitive to each individual, age, context and environment. Our diverse, inclusive community is unique – girls embracing their differences, celebrating each other’s achievements, and rejecting perfectionist, stereotypical versions of themselves.
Future Focussed
To be truly well prepared, our young girls have their eyes opened to their potential and their passions. It is our mission to inspire young women from an early age to recognise that they can forge their own path and aim high, supported by our team of experts. Our Futures Programme across the whole school is ambitious and determined for every child – looking outwards, drawing inspiration from our many successful alumnae, exploring the multi-faceted world of work and fostering important employability skills..
This specialised education, both at Prep and Senior, alongside the core curriculum, fosters intelligent thinkers, culturally and morally aware, as well as creative, problem solvers who collaborate within teams and articulate their thoughts with great passion alongside emotional understanding. Our young women, when they leave us, are successful leaders and role models, fully prepared.
The Sydenham High curriculum is deliberately designed to deliver academic excellence alongside a broad education in critical thinking, problem solving, visual culture, digital innovation and emotional intelligence.
What makes us special?
Girls at Sydenham High are ambitious and open minded. They are also well rounded, intellectually curious, down to earth and happy.
Self-belief and happiness, alongside a ‘can do’ approach to every aspect of school life, enable our girls to thrive and succeed, and they leave us equipped with the skills and confidence to thrive in their future.
We believe our pupils deserve the highest standards of classroom practice, as well as exciting, challenging and enriching co-curricular opportunities, in an inspirational environment where they can be themselves and learn to be independent, resilient and confident.
The 2024 ISI report recognises the committed and passionate leadership group who drive the school forward, supported wholeheartedly by the staff, which leads to a positive and effective learning environment, benefitting pupils’ development as young people, ready for their futures. Leaders work together successfully with a clear focus on educating the whole person. They actively promote the wellbeing of all pupils, taking a strategic and inclusive approach.

Good Schools Guide Prep Review
“A lovely school that offers myriad opportunities to these bright, buzzy girls. Parent after parent told us how happy their children are at the Prep. One said her family had been thinking of moving out of London but had decided against it because she couldn’t bear to move her daughters from a school where they are flourishing on every level.”
