Our attitude to sport in the Junior School involves all pupils (from Reception to year 6) in keeping active, honing skills and developing a sense of team spirit. All girls receive specialist Physical Education (PE) teaching each week. Pupils from reception to year 2 focus on securing proficiency in the basic multi-skills of rolling, catching, travelling and striking as well as gaining an introduction to gymnastics. As girls move into year 3 and beyond the focus shifts towards mastering the game-play of netball, hockey, rounders and football alongside athletics and cross-country running.
As pupils progress into year 2, the focus shifts towards mastering the game-play of netball, hockey, rounders and football alongside athletics and cross-country running.
From year 3, our girls have the opportunity to represent the school in numerous competitive fixtures and tournaments against other local schools as well as participate in regular GDST sporting rallies. In addition, all pupils come together once a term to participate in a major Inter-House sporting tournament.
Swimming is a feature of the Junior School PE curriculum from Reception. All swimming takes place at Crystal Palace National Sports Centre which is just a short walk from the Junior School site. From year 5, pupils can trial for membership to our Swim Squad.
As well as making use of the large gymnasium and all-weather pitch facilities at Senior School, Junior School pupils frequently visit our Sports Ground in Lower Sydenham for athletics events and Sports Days.
