Today, Sydenham High proudly hosted our annual Culture Day—a joyful celebration of the rich tapestry within our community. With over 30 languages spoken across the school and pupils offered the opportunity to take GCSEs in their home languages wherever possible, our linguistic and cultural diversity stands at the heart of Sydenham’s identity as a truly global community.

This year’s celebration was thoughtfully organised by our Undivided Prefects, who created a vibrant programme centred on sharing cultural traditions and honouring the many identities that make up our school. Throughout the day, pupils and staff enjoyed welcoming one another in different home languages and savouring a specially designed tasting menu that showcased flavours from around the world.

One of the highlights was the lively lunchtime fashion show, which brought colour, confidence, and cultural pride to the catwalk. With over 30 pupils and staff taking part, the show became a kaleidoscope of fabrics, patterns, and music representing individual heritages—drawing smiles, applause, and great admiration from the audience.

We also shared and learned more than 30 different ways to say “welcome”, creating a fun and interactive cultural exchange. Here is a snapshot of the greetings contributed by our community:

Culture and Diversity Day is a true testament to the Sydenham High community: though we come from all corners of the globe, we are united by shared values, mutual respect, and a spirit of curiosity and celebration. Today’s festivities beautifully reflected what it means to belong at Sydenham High.
