Creativity, Community & Compassion at Year 9 Charity Day

Year 9 showed exemplary community spirit at their Charity Day. From cookie decorating to chocolate tombala, our houses came together to champion vital causes.

Developing Empathy and Leadership Beyond the Classroom

The Longton Hall was transformed into a vibrant hub of philanthropy, with the Year 9 Charity Day. House Prefects from Grey, Gurney, Shirreff and Stanley hosted a bustling fair in support of their chosen charities.

Students from all years poured into the hall, keen to support the girls’ fundraising efforts. It was a powerful reminder of the kindness and community spirit that sits at the heart of our school ethos.

Grey chose to raise money for Save the Children, who work in over 100 countries to ensure children are safe, healthy and learning. Their chocolate tombola drew students in with a vast array of prizes, ranging from Penguin bars to share bags of chocolate buttons, making it a popular stall of girls trying their luck and the first stall to sell out!

Gurney’s charity of choice was Cancer Research UK, the world’s largest independent cancer research charity. Showcasing the girls’ creativity, they ran a diverse range of activities: cookie decorating, guessing the teddy’s name, selling mystery goody bags and even a sweet tombola! It was no surprise their stalls were bustling all lunch.

Shirreff ran a cupcake decorating and hot chocolate stall, in aid of the WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature), focusing on protecting endangered wildlife and fighting climate change. The hot chocolate was perfect for a winter day and the students loved unleashing their creativity through their cupcake decorating.

Raising money for War Child, a charity who protects, educates and stands up for the rights of children in war, Stanley were serving up strawberry, passion fruit and mango boba. This innovative idea had students queuing up all lunch break!

The event was more than just a fundraiser, it was a celebration of what we can achieve when we work together. The Year 9s demonstrated maturity, organizational skills, collaboration and, most importantly, a genuine empathy for their causes.

Thank you to everyone who baked, donated and took part in this incredible event, we are still counting up final costs but estimate that the girls raised over £1000, to go directly to these amazing charities.
