Dulwich Schools Debating Competition

Our pupils demonstrated confidence, resilience, and exceptional debating skills at this prestigious event.

Savannah and Latymer Partner Secure Top Places

Sydenham High pupils shone at the Dulwich Schools Debating Competition, showing confidence, resilience and skill. Savannah and her partner from Latymer secured top places, while Annabel supported Maya to deliver a courageous speech — a brilliant showcase of the power of words.

Our pupils represented Sydenham High School brilliantly at the prestigious Dulwich Schools Debating Competition on 28 Sep 2025, taking part in four British Parliamentary style debates. Throughout the day they grew in confidence, resilience and debating skill.

Savannah, whose partner was unfortunately unwell, teamed up with a pupil from Latymer and together secured first and second place in two debates. Annabel also showed great leadership and encouragement, helping Maya overcome her nerves to deliver a strong closing speech — a true testament to courage and perseverance.

The event was also a reminder of the lifelong value of debating. As one of the DC Masters emphasised that debating is a skill AI cannot replicate: your choice of words, tone, mannerisms and presentation are uniquely human and essential for future interviews and opportunities.

A fantastic learning experience and an inspiring showcase of the power of words.
