Prep Sports Report: Spring 2026

An exciting half term full of learning and development across all sport.

U9/10 Hockey v Bromley High

On Monday 9 February, two mixed teams of Year 4 and 5 players took on Bromley High in an enjoyable afternoon of fixtures.

The A team faced a strong and well-organised Bromley side and, despite creating chances of their own, were defeated 4–0. The girls showed resilience and teamwork throughout the match. Caitlin was named the opposition’s Player of the Match for her excellent all-round performance, while Estelle received Mr Matthews’ Player of the Match award for her consistent hard work and determination across the pitch.

The B team delivered a fantastic performance to secure a 2–0 win. Goals were scored by Cece and Emily, with the team showing great attacking intent and solid defending. Emily was awarded opposition’s Player of the Match for her brilliantly taken goal, and Evie was named Mr Rowlands’ Player of the Match for her great dribbling and control in possession.

Well done to all the girls for their effort, enthusiasm and sportsmanship!

U11 Hockey vs Bromley High

On Wednesday 4 February, we hosted Bromley High for a competitive afternoon of U11 hockey. The A team played a fantastic, tight game, finishing 0-0. Both sides defended exceptionally well, making it a real test of skill and determination.

Our players showed excellent stick work, positioning, and teamwork throughout, keeping Bromley’s forwards at bay and creating some chances of their own. Player of the Match was Freja as chosen by the opposition team. Well done to the whole team for their focus and effort, it was a true team performance!

The B team faced a strong Bromley side, which included some strong Year 5 players filling out the opposition team. Despite battling hard and showing great effort, they finished on the wrong side of a 4-0 scoreline. However, the final score didn’t reflect the determination and spirit of our players, who continued to compete until the final whistle and did not deserve to lose by this margin. Player of the Match as chosen by the opposition was Arabella. A tough game, but the team’s resilience and teamwork were excellent to see.

U11 Netball v Bromley High

It was fantastic to see so many of our Year 6 pupils proudly representing Sydenham High in our U11 A–D fixture against Bromley High School on Wednesday 11 February. With four teams competing, the afternoon was full of energy, determination and some excellent netball on display.

The A team played a high-paced and competitive match, narrowly losing 8–6. The girls were clinical in attack, with Maddie and Ruby each scoring three goals. Against strong defensive pressure, the team worked tirelessly to move the ball through the thirds and showed great composure in front of goal. Georgia’s impressive all-round performance earned her Player of the Match, as chosen by the opposition.

The B team were incredibly unlucky to lose 9–8 in what was a brilliant game of netball that ebbed and flowed. The team played some outstanding netball, demonstrating excellent movement and teamwork throughout the court. Blake was on exceptional shooting form, scoring seven goals, with Orla C adding another. Blake’s performance was deservedly recognised by the opposition, who named her Player of the Match.

The C team battled hard in their game, finishing 8–5. Tabby (3 goals) and Amelia (2 goals) led the scoring, while the whole team showed resilience and determination in both attack and defence. Soumaya’s relentless work rate and commitment around the court saw her awarded Player of the Match by the opposition, a testament to her positive attitude and effort throughout.

For some of our D team players, this was their first match representing the school, and they should be incredibly proud of their efforts. Although the final score was 8–0, it certainly did not reflect the determination and progress shown across the court. The girls grew in confidence as the match went on and displayed fantastic teamwork. Ellie was deservedly awarded Player of the Match by the opposition, a brilliant achievement in her first netball fixture.

While the results did not fall in our favour this time, the afternoon was a wonderful showcase of the enthusiasm, skill and sporting spirit within our Year 6 cohort. It was a pleasure to see so many girls representing Sydenham High with such commitment and pride. Well done to all involved on a fantastic afternoon of competitive netball.

U10 Hockey vs Rosemead Prep

Thursday 5 February brought wet and challenging conditions, but our U10 hockey teams rose to the occasion. The A team produced a brilliant performance, coming from behind after conceding early to win 4-1.

Some fantastic goals were scored: Sadie netted twice, Arabella once, and Elvy once, with the team creating numerous other chances that were brilliantly saved by Rosemead’s defenders. The players worked seamlessly together, showing both skill and determination. Player of the Match chosen by the opposition team was Nuri. A well-deserved win for the team and excellent teamwork throughout!

The B team were equally impressive, securing a 6-1 victory with a brilliant display of attacking hockey. Caitlin scored a hat-trick, Iris added two goals, and Olivia T scored one goal. The team’s passing, movement, and energy were excellent throughout the match, creating many chances and finishing confidently. Player of the Match was Zara as chosen by the opposition team. Well done to every Year 5 player for a fantastic performance in challenging conditions!
