40 Year 9 and 10 Latinists went to the Pompeii Immersive Exhibition at the Excel Centre as part of the ‘Mind Body Soul’ day. They had a very memorable day learning about daily life in Pompeii before the eruption in 79 AD and experiencing it up close with VR headsets that placed us in a gladiatorial combat in the amphitheatre and enabled us to walk around a Roman villa as a group. We also immersed ourselves in the eruption itself with a surround sound and visual experience where we experienced the last twenty minutes before the eruption. Our time at the exhibition concluded with a photo booth where we each were transformed into Roman men and women! It was such a fun day and we all had a great time – the students were a credit to themselves and the school.
“I really enjoyed the immersive experience. Virtual reality was a super interesting way to combine ancient history with a modern perspective. We saw lots of replicas and artefacts, and learned about the process of how they made the castings, as well as a few replications of those castings. We also saw how Pompeii houses would look like with VR. It was an amazing experience!”
