DRAMA
Alongside Drama in the curriculum and productions at school, our pupils have opportunities to explore dramatic pursuits.
In spring 2025, our Year 6 pupils enjoyed a truly inspiring cross-Trust school event at the world-famous Globe Theatre in London, where they were immersed in the world of Shakespeare through a series of exciting and hands-on workshops, including a Dressing Demonstration, Sword Fighting Session, Social Justice Workshop, where pupils explored powerful themes of identity, heritage, and the modern relevance of Shakespeare’s work, and a Lively Action Workshop, connecting physically and emotionally with ‘The Comedy of Errors’. This special experience at the Globe Theatre not only deepened pupils’ understanding of Shakespeare but also sparked their creativity and enthusiasm for the arts and drama – an unforgettable day of learning, laughter, and inspiration.
Productions
As well as representing an important part of our English curriculum, Drama makes a significant contribution to the Co-Curricular programme at our Prep School.
Alongside traditional nativities and Christmas productions, Prep School pupils take part in two large-scale dramatic productions in Year 4 and Year 6. These are staged at the Senior School to make the most of the specialist facilities at the Westwood Theatre and Longton Hall. Prep School pupils not only feature on stage but also take charge of all aspects of lighting, sound, visual effects and stage management.
Drama Clubs
Alongside these large-scale events, pupils regularly have the opportunity to attend one of our after-school Drama Clubs, participate in assemblies to parents, and audition for our termly Speech & Drama Showcase. Pupils from Reception to Year 6 also regularly take up the opportunity to study for the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) accredited examinations and we are proud to be regular contributors to the Beckenham Festival each November.
