[Pupils’] many and varied interests are supported by an extensive programme of extra-curricular clubs
– ISI, 2020
At Sydenham High Prep School our co-curricular offering is called Mind, Body & Soul, with clubs and activities focused on targeting each of these areas.
Pupils in the Prep School enjoy a rich and varied school day with generous allocations of time and specialist teaching and this is further reflected in our wide ranging co-curricular programme. We offer over 60 clubs each week that run either before, after or during the school day which means the school buzzes with children having fun, honing their skills, discovering new passions, and exploring their talents.
We believe that clubs offer pupils a wide range of new, fun experiences and challenges. Although entirely optional, we would recommend that all pupils participate in at least one club per week and where possible more than one club. All teacher-run clubs are available for no additional charge. LAMDA, Ballet, Tap lessons, Gems Performing Arts, Spanish and Circus skills club are run by external providers at a charge.
In addition to a wide range of sport, music, art and drama activities, we offer an extensive range of clubs which change on a termly basis. These include activities such as debating, philosophy, fencing, calligraphy and chess.
Out & About
We offer frequent opportunities for organised educational and cultural visits and trips for all pupils. Our proximity to London’s museums, galleries and visitor attractions is a real advantage and our pupils regularly make the most of what the capital has to offer.
Each class will participate in at least one day trip per term, which increases as the pupils mature and progress through the Prep School. Trips vary each year to match the curriculum, as well as the interests and needs of the pupils, and range from locations as far afield as France to the Horniman Museum just around the corner.
We take advantage of a number of superb GDST outings each year. These events allow Prep School pupils to visit other schools around the country. Regular events include the annual Maths Conference hosted by Oxford High School GDST at Oxford University and Digital Leaders’ Forum hosted by South Hampstead High School GDST.
Our exciting residential trips programme commences in year 4 when pupils visit Stubbers Outdoor Education Centre for two nights. This increases to four-night trips to the Jurassic Coast (year 5) and Northern France (year 6). A ski and outdoor education trip is also available to year 5 and 6.
Our outdoor classroom also enhances and enriches the educational experience for all pupils in the Prep School and adds an additional layer of excitement and opportunity to their learning.
