THE ELEVATE CURRICULUM
The Elevate Curriculum is unique to Sydenham High. This pioneering initiative offers timetabled periods for pupils to study key future skills, alongside bespoke academic extension and a broad co-curricular programme, emphasising holistic development.
Future-focused education
In 2015, we spearheaded the Power Skills Programme, a unique Sixth Form timetabled provision, in early recognition of the need to equip students with the transferable skills essential for life beyond school, echoing Reuters’ observation that
“Power skills aren’t just nice to have— they are essential skills for an ever-changing workplace.”
This developed into The Elevate Curriculum. This pioneering initiative offers timetabled periods for pupils to study key future skills, emphasising holistic development. Our goal is to ensure every girl is ready to take her seat at the boardroom table – whether that’s for a global corporation or a start-up agricultural innovator!
Through our Elevate Curriculum pupils gain essential skills that extend far beyond the classroom. From research, debate, and nuanced communication to problem-solving, personal finance, and creative expression, each course is designed to foster intellectual curiosity, ethical awareness, and real-world readiness. Whether developing financial literacy, decoding ancient languages, exploring visual culture, or innovating with AI, pupils enhance their analytical thinking, collaboration, adaptability, and leadership. This experience equips our girls with the tools to navigate complex global issues, make informed decisions, and thrive in interviews, further education, and the working world ahead.
Inspired by the Cambridge Oracy Skills Framework, our courses cover a range of topics which develop key skills:
-
An understanding of philosophical thought; moral & ethical intelligence
-
A knowledge of political and global debates
-
An appreciation of visual language and visual culture
-
Financial literacy and business acumen
-
Digital literacy & innovation
