BEYOND THE CLASSROOM

Girls benefit from a wealth of exceptional co-curricular opportunities that introduce pupils to many new experiences and enrich their education beyond curriculum lessons, academically and personally.

In addition to classroom teaching, every subject organises an exciting range of off-site trips and in-school events to reinforce teaching and bring subjects to life. Academic extension is encouraged from Year 7 through to Sixth Form, alongside exploring new interests and ideas in Mind, Body & Soul Clubs and drop-down days.

The Performing Arts are excellent and the school regularly showcases its talents in Music, Dance and Drama. Our sporting prowess continues to grow, with all girls encouraged to be physically active whether competitively or just for fun!

We always put girls first, and fundamentally believe in the research which shows that girls do better in single-sex environments; however, we recognise the additional opportunities for growth and development that can come from coeducational collaboration and offer activities across year groups, including our Year 8 One Voice speaking competition with Dulwich Prep & Senior, rowing with Dulwich College from Year 9, as well as our Academic Electives at Sixth Form.

Everyone’s achievements are celebrated here and there is a strong tradition of excellence in our co-curricular pursuits. Standards are high, but, above all, pupils relish the freedom of being able to join with friends and enjoy themselves. We also have a strong tradition of Houses and Inter-House events add another interesting layer of opportunity and engagement in the wider life of the school.

Performing Arts

The Performing Arts at Sydenham High are incredibly strong and provide invaluable opportunities for girls to get involved in some exciting and memorable clubs, activities and events. Every year, the school holds a Performing Arts Dinner to celebrate the incredible achievements, talents and contributions of the girls to this area of school life.

Sport

The PE Department aims are twofold; providing and encouraging both participation and excellence in sport and physical activity. The department promotes a ‘sport for all’ policy and encourages everybody to join in, recreationally or competitively, fostering a long-term positive attitude towards health, fitness and physical recreation. Our annual Sports Awards recognise commitment and achievement across all disciplines.

Mind, Body & Soul Enrichment

With a whole range of clubs and activities on offer, there really is something for everyone here. We are responsive to the needs and passions of our pupil body and update the offer each term.

Trips

Every department organises stimulating excursions and events that make connections between different subjects and bring areas of study alive.

Duke of Edinburgh's

Over time, DofE builds confidence, dedication and commitment, attributes we all want to see in our young people in school, life and in the workplace.

Houses

We have a strong sense of belonging developed through our House system, with girls proudly cheering on Gurney, Grey, Shirreff or Stanley at our inter-House events throughout the year.
