Throughout key stage 3 we aim to introduce pupils to a wide range of contemporary geographical issues. We start in Year 7 by exploring several global biomes and through a series of different units pupils learn to ‘think like a geographer’ making links between what they are learning in the classroom and the wider world. For example, when studying ‘Migration’ in Year 7 we aim to draw upon pupils’ personal links to migrations, either from their own family or within the wider community. Whilst gaining an understanding of a breadth of topics, pupils develop important geographical skills such as map reading, describing distributions, using and creating appropriate graphs and developing explanation and evaluation skills.
