Throughout key stage 3, Music has a practical focus with whole class, chamber and solo performance embedded within each unit. Pupils learn both musicianship and theoretical knowledge through application in a wide range of disciplines including tuned percussion, untuned percussion, voice, piano and music technology. Every topic also includes listening, appraising and composition all of which directly link and build towards the key stage 4 and 5 curriculum. Showcasing both composition and performance work is a focus within each term and success is evidenced through progress regardless of prior musical knowledge; the curriculum caters to all musicians from the beginner to the experienced instrumentalist and is exciting, engaging and diverse.
