ALUMNAE
Every Sydenham High student automatically becomes an alumna when they leave the school. They also join an unrivalled worldwide network of more than 100,000 women who have experienced a GDST education.
We love hearing from our alumnae – and so do our current pupils!
Whatever you have gone on to do, please let us know – and if you would be interested in volunteering some of your time to come back to school to speak to pupils about your career path we’d be very happy to host you!
If you’d simply like to see your old school, and our new developments, please get in touch. We have welcomed in several reunions and would love to see more of our alumnae.
Sydenham High’s Old Girls’ Association is now coordinated by Sydenham High School. If you were on the OGA mailing list you will now have been transferred to the main alumnae database. There’s no charge to belong to the GDST alumnae network, so if you don’t already hear from us or the GDST, and would like to, please register here to receive our termly Sydenham High alumnae e-newsletter and GDST e-zines, as well as to gain access to exclusive events and career networking opportunities. By registering with the GDST, we will also access your details and be able to contact you about upcoming events or special projects should you so wish.
Speaking to pupils
We run annual Futures Fairs where many alumnae have returned to speak to pupils about their careers We have also had alumnae return to give assemblies, workshops and presentations to smaller groups or particular years. The girls love to see what someone who walked through the same school corridors can go on to do, so please do get in touch if you’d consider getting involved.
Visits & Reunions
Former pupils are always welcome back at Sydenham High, in and out of term time. If you’d be interested in visiting the school, have plans to organise a class reunion, or just want to let us know what you’ve been up to, we’d love to hear from you! Contact us aby email or on 020 8557 7066.
Mentoring & Futures
In a time-honoured tradition, we look to our alumnae to help current pupils as mentors and career guides. We would be delighted to hear from former pupils who can offer their time by way of calls, individual mentoring or offers of work experience. Please contact us via email or on 0208 557 7066 if you can help.
Staying in touch
To update your details, you can email alumnae@syd.gdst.net, or post a letter to the school for the attention of Wonnie Sayama. Alternatively, you can update your basic details on the GDST website.
Class of 1974 reunion
We had the pleasure of welcoming our Class of 1974 back for their 50th Year Reunion on 1 June 2024. Many of them travelled from abroad specifically for this reunion, and it was truly heartwarming to reconnect with them and hear their wonderful stories. As they reminisced, they remarked that although they may have changed a little, being back at Sydenham High felt like they’d never left.
We took the time to stroll down memory lane, reflecting on how Sydenham High looked over 50 years ago. The current dining hall used to be their gymnasium, and the area where the Centenary Building now stands was an open space where they used to socialise. It was a privilege to join their celebration, and moments like these truly embody the spirit of Sydenham High.
We look forward to welcoming them back for their next anniversary!
