New GDST CEO to speak at Sixth Form Open Evening

edit

This year’s Sixth Form Open Evening at Sydenham High (Thursday 3 November), will be opened by the new Chief Executive of the Girls’ Day School Trust, Cheryl Giovannoni.

Ms Giovannoni has had a distinguished career within global marketing communications business WPP, most recently as CEO of advertising agency Ogilvy & Mather, and is firmly committed to helping more women break through the glass ceiling.

Also present will be Head designate, Mrs Katharine Woodcock, who joins the school in April, and the new Head of Sixth Form Rebecca Parrish.

Said Ms Parrish: “Having come from the maintained sector I can hand on heart say that, if you’re a student who’s going places, this is definitely the place to be.”

That’s also the view of the school’s current sixth formers who really value its focus on both academic and whole student development, its small classes which provide exceptional levels of personalised learning, stretch and challenge, and its friendly, community-orientated environment.

The Open Evening will provide an opportunity to see what Sydenham High Sixth Form has to offer, including meeting current sixth formers and experiencing a showcase of their wide ranging co-curricular activities.

Opportunities to broaden horizons abound with strong co-curricular programmes, including links with Dulwich College for the Young Enterprise Scheme; university and career guidance programmes, and many leadership roles both inside school and out in the local community.

All of this happens in addition to a strong focus on academic excellence, regularly demonstrated by outstanding exam results.  This summer’s A levels were no exception as students achieved record top grades and places at some of the country’s top universities and colleges including Oxford, York, Warwick and Exeter to study courses as diverse as Engineering and Japanese.

Being part of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST) also provides numerous networking and training opportunities with sixth formers from other GDST schools, along with access to an unrivalled alumnae network.

Sixth Form bursaries are available, including those kindly sponsored by HSBC, as well as scholarships, exhibition awards.
