Netballers win silver in All Kent championships

edit

u-14-kent-team-photo-nov-9-16The Year 9 U14 netball team has claimed silver at the All Kent championships with a wonderful display of talent and Sydenham Spirit.

Despite shaky start the girls ended up playing out of their skins to claim a well-deserved second podium position.

The tournament win followed a clean sweep in the preliminary round where the team scored no less than 60 goals whilst only letting in nine and playing some of the best netball of their lives.

The win also guarantees them a place in the overall regional finals in January.

The senior school team’s impressive development and dedication has seen them shoot up the rankings over the last four years: 4th in Kent in 2014, 3rd in 2015 and now second.  Could 2017 be a golden year to coincide with the school’s 130th birthday?  Watch this space…..

Huge congratulations to the team:- Mya Salau, Ellie Press, Greta Burton, Ella Wint-Kearney, Margaux Brewin (Captain), Frannie Dinsdale, Olivia Eades, Sophie Harris

Meanwhile our Junior netballers are clearly being inspired by these results and, under the coaching of senior school PE teacher Mrs Bhadeshia, are showing their tremendous potential to be worthy successors to this team.

When they attended the GDST Netball Rally in Oxford in November, the U11 team came 4th out of 21 schools participating, scoring an impressive 58 goals to 17 scored against them. They beat RHS Bath 16 – 1; Northwood 13 – 0; Sheffield 3 – 1; Portsmouth 14 – 0 and Brighton 4 – 2.  They lost in the semi-final to Wimbledon who went on to win the rally. Zaida Iscandari was voted players’ player and coach’s player title was given to Kayla Victor.
