A large number of Sydenham High students are therefore set to represent Lewisham at the London Schools athletics event later in the term.
Earlier in the week the year 8 rounders team defeated all-comers to take the Lewisham title for the second year in a row.
The first Headmistress’s commendations of the term have also gone to athletes: Tilly Stevens-Cox, (year 8), who in an athletics competition on 8 May not only won her 1500m race, but also beat her personal best, and Francesca Dinsdale (year 9) for outstanding achievement in netball. Francesca recently played as goal attack in the ‘Rising Stars Junior League’ for Raiders and her team won. Not only did the team win gold medals but Francesca was also named player of the match.
Headmistress’s commendations are a new school award. They are presented personally by Mrs Woodcock to pupils who have achieved something exceptional in their academic work, in a co-curricular pursuit or in other areas of their daily lives.
