Book Week & International Women's Day - Sydenham High School

Book Week & International Women’s Day

edit

Book Week got off to fabulous start on Monday morning with an assembly from Luke Kelly, grandson of Roald Dahl.

Roald Dahl is one of the most popular authors amongst Prep School pupils so you can only imagine their delight at finding out what the author was really like and how he went about developing his famous books.

Mr Kelly wowed the school with his insights into Roald Dahl’s career as a fighter pilot and spy before he turned his hand to writing. A dedicated editor of his work, Roald Dahl apparently spent lots of time rewriting and amending his books. Did you know that his first title for what we know as James and the Giant Peach was in fact James and the Giant Cherry?!

Then, the Prep School playground was unrecognisable on Thursday as Book Characters turned out in force in to celebrate World Book Day. Each class participated in our parade and certificates of merit were presented to one pupil in each class in recognition of their efforts to bring a character to life.
