A year like no other for year 11 - Sydenham High School

A year like no other for year 11

edit

On a most unusual of results days, following considerable conjecture and press coverage, year 11 received their GCSE results by email this morning, the culmination of a challenging six months and two years of hard work. With the support of their dedicated teachers and families, the whole cohort has shown great resilience and adaptability as the situation unfolded this year.

The results overall show an improvement year on year and huge congratulations should go to both pupils and teachers on their hard work.

  • 53% 9/8 A*
  • 76.3% 9-7 A*/A
  • 100%  9-4 A*-C

Throughout the last few months our pupils have thrown themselves into their ‘Bridging the Gap’ Pre-A Level programme, to keep them focused and ensure a strong preparation for their next steps into Sixth Form, very much turning this time of great uncertainty into a opportunity for growth.

During this period, year 11 were able to maintain some semblance of normality through Guided Home Learning of their timetabled lessons, but they also participated in charity fundraising for our #SE26CharityChallenge as well as house events, showing their commitment to not only school but the wider community.

I am immensely proud of the way that year 11 have handled this unprecedented period with maturity and determination. It was lovely to see so many girls in school today and we look forward to welcoming them back soon as they move into the Sixth Form. Well done to them all on their brilliant results!

– Katharine Woodcock, Head
