Prep School Eco Week - Sydenham High School

Prep School Eco Week

edit

Eco week at Prep School saw all Giraffe girls step up to share their ideas and use their voice as a catalyst for change. On Monday. Alice, Amelie, Amelia, Ella, Daisy, Sara and Molly from our Eco Council led an inspiring and informative assembly for the school. They shared facts and figures demonstrating the impact of climate change on planet Earth. However, the positive action that we can take as a school community was resounding, plans are afoot for our Outdoor classroom and Spring bulbs have already been planted. On Thursday, Eco reps also performed music and a drama sketch too, inspiring the next wave of action. Pupils in Year 3 – Year 6 completed an Eco Week pupil survey to share their ideas for future careers they may enjoy and the eco matters that are most important to them. Our newly formed Eco Council of Year 5 and 6 representatives will be analysing this data further and creating an action plan.

Our House Captains did everyone proud on Wednesday morning when they led their own House Meetings.  Not only did they share a poignant story about a ‘last whale’, they also researched and told everyone about an endangered creature that is the colour of their House.  Grey House researched the Blue Whale, Shirreff House found out all about the Red Panda, Gurney explored information regarding the Green Sea Turtle and Stanley discovered why Seahorses are endangered.  Girls in the school, from Reception to Year 6, were fascinated to find out, for example, that a blue whale’s blood vessels are big enough for humans to swim through!
