Future-proofing our students in Next Steps Week

edit

It has been a week of ‘next steps’ for our Year 10 and Year 12 students this week. Our Sixth Form Experience Day for Year 10 was a great success as pupils were able to sample taster lessons in subjects of their choice to get an idea of what an A Level class is like. They had bespoke timetables, including sessions on the UCAS application process, the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), and the broad-ranging enrichment and electives that our students benefit from in the Sixth Form. There was also a Q and A session with a panel of our current sixth formers who spoke about their experience and gave advice on choosing subjects.

A visit to Sussex University provided Year 10 with the opportunity to find out more about UCAS and university life, creating lots of food for thought! This was then followed by an afternoon in the sunshine by the sea. Alongside this, Morrisby interviews took place throughout the week, allowing pupils to gain guidance regarding interview technique and their possible future career paths.

And finally, the week ended with a Higher Education Day where pupils were given an overview of the application process, alongside a chance to begin setting up their UCAS profiles and planning personal statements. They then spent the afternoon participating in masterclasses focused on the areas that they wish to apply for. These included Economics/Business, Psychology, Gap Years, Law and Human Sciences just to name a few, with Ms Geldeard even delivering one on Oxbridge applications.
