Year 10 had an enjoyable morning visiting the beautiful Buddhapadipa Temple in Wimbledon. Their guide explained the impressive art inside the temple, revealing the stories of the Buddha’s early life to his enlightenment. She reinforced the important symbolism of the lotus flower, as the stages of which one is ready to receive the way of the Buddha and strive for enlightenment.
Pupils then had the opportunity to ask questions to three Buddhist monks, one of whom had recently been ordained. They completed their experience with a seated meditation, focusing on mindfulness and understanding, as well as the role of love and compassion to ourselves and all people. Pupils were then free to explore the gardens, seeing the multiple Buddharupas.
