Grey overcome the rain to win Sports Day 2023 - Sydenham High School

Grey overcome the rain to win Sports Day 2023

edit

For a moment, it looked as if this year’s Senior School Sports Day might not take place. As the heavens opened in the early hours of the morning, the decision was made to continue as planned, but with a rejigged schedule. Energy levels were still high, however, and as if by the power of sheer will alone, as the day went on, the sun even made an appearance to add to what was a high-spirited and fun-filled day.

In aid of The Bone Cancer Research Trust, we will be raising money until the end of term towards what is most definitely a worthy cause. As we do every year, the money raised is in memory of two Sydenham High pupils who tragically suffered with bone cancer and passed away during their time at school –  Rose, who attended the Prep School and died in 2010 just before her ninth birthday, and Lottie who was in Year 13 and also sadly passed away in 2010.

From the usual track and field events to Boccia, as is always the case, the Sydenham Spirit was in full force and contributed towards what was an enjoyable day all around! It was also lovely to see so many parents back at Worsley Bridge Road sports ground after a few years away. The only event that was unable to be completed was the High Jump, and the day ended with the winning House announced as: Grey!

It remains to be seen if they will be beaten next year, but in the meantime, have a look at our gallery below for a taste of the action.
