We celebrated International Day of the Girl on 11 October (Wednesday) during our assembly, led by 12 girls who have been researching this year’s theme, ‘Invest in Girls’ Rights: Our Leadership and Well-being.’
They demonstrated strong leadership by raising awareness of the challenges girls face across the globe, and encouraging all girls to step up and fight for equal rights in areas from education to tax, and even sport.
The embodiment of Sydenham High’s ethos of ‘Fear Nothing’, our Student Leadership team brought our attention to the heavy tax burden faced by women in having to pay for menstrual products, as well as the challenges faced by girls whose families force them in to marriage at an extremely young age, and many other important issues.
