The theme for this year’s International Women’s Day lies at the core of Sydenham’s values. We empower our girls to be BOLD, to break out of tradition and forge their own paths. I have recently been reading a book called ‘Metaphysical Animals: How Four Women Brought Philosophy Back to Life’. It tells the story of how these four BOLD women seized the opportunity during the Second World War and shifted the focus back to the core of Philosophy—the truth of our humanity. They created a way of ethical thinking that remains relevant today. One of the women, Elizabeth Anscombe, was an alumna of Sydenham High, and she is truly an inspirational figure who embodies Sydenham’s motto, from then till now.
Today, we spent time together celebrating and reflecting on women’s achievements, reminding ourselves the importance of unity and inclusion.
