Eco Prefects drive forward sustainability

edit

The first Senior School assembly of the new half term was a virtual one and was led by our Eco Prefects, Archie, Kirsten and Ruby who explained the importance of the upcoming COP 27 summit in Egypt. They also raised awareness about some of the upcoming initiatives taking place in school to do our part in the fight against climate change.

For example, our popular Clothes Swap makes its return on Thursday 24 November, with a particular focus on Christmas jumpers as we head towards the festive season. Meanwhile we will be taking part in a Switch-Off fortnight from the 7 – 25 November. Following on from our very successful Lights Off Day, this initiative is to try and turn off lights in rooms across the school when not in use.

Finally, our Prefects touched on an upcoming GDST poll including a  range of environmental topics from nature and infrastructure-based projects to health and livelihood projects. This was followed by a clip from Sir David Attenborough’s Frozen Planet which you can watch below.  The result was a highly informative assembly which reminded us all of our responsibility to our planet, while giving us the opportunity to help make a difference in school.

GDST is also focusing on sustainability in this week’s Raise Her Up podcast, which can be found here.
