The Humanities Stretch talks are a fantastic part of our co-curricular offering, allowing pupils to delve into topics they may not cover during lessons. Open to Year 9 and above, these lunchtime sessions wrestle with big questions each week, challenging us to be academically curious. Pupils discuss a plethora of subjects – this term has included the representation of women artists at the Tate and debating whether the Lost World of Atlantis existed and remained to be found, and analysing the UK’s resilience versus vulnerability with regard to food security. With a focus on issues around Brexit and food supply chains/trade deals, as well as the importance of migrant labour in the food industry, this talk explored the role of supermarkets in changing the way we consume food and the potential impact of this on food poverty.
