Plastic Free School Programme - Sydenham High School

Plastic Free School Programme

edit

This week, our Sixth Former and Eco Council leaders, Mei and Jocelyn, delivered a thought-provoking assembly by sharing many disturbing yet, sadly, accurate facts about the severe impact of current plastic pollution on our world.

“Plastic pollution, accumulation in the environment of synthetic plastic products to the point that they create problems for wildlife and their habitats as well as for human populations.”- Encyclopedia Britannica

This year, we are focusing on marine pollution, plastic waste in our seas and oceans, and, most importantly, what we can all do to make a difference and eliminate plastic waste within our school. The marine conservation and campaign group Surfers against Sewage run a programme for schools designed to help us reflect upon and assess the current situation and how we can all take action and make a positive impact. We encourage students who share this passion to join us in this mission.

One of our school’s core values is ‘Generosity of Spirit.’ We aspire to be outward-looking, give back, taking on leadership and having a positive impact. Empowering students to fight for what they believe is a key priority for Sydenham High, and we will continue to push for a better environment for us and future generations.

We are proud of our Eco Warriors! You can read more about their actions and the impact they are having here.
