Claire Rowney’s career spans 15 years of charity sector leadership, and in 2023 she was voted one of Campaign Magazine’s ‘Power 100’.  Claire is a highly strategic leader with extensive director level experience within the cancer charity sector, having worked at Cancer Research UK, Save the Children UK and Macmillan Cancer Support, across fundraising, marketing, strategy, and innovation.

In September 2024, Claire will take on a new appointment as Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Now, as she remarked:

I am over the moon to be joining Breast Cancer Now at this important point in time for people with breast cancer. I’m full of energy and passion to make a meaningful difference today and in the future for people with breast cancer, and to lead such an inspiring, focused, and pioneering organisation.”

Claire attended Sydenham High School with her twin sister Fiona. She recalls that Sydenham High provided an environment conducive to exploration and excellence and fondly recalls forging lifelong friendships in this supportive atmosphere, where the breadth of education was embraced. Reflecting on her journey, Claire finds resonance in the school motto, ‘Fear Nothing’, which instilled in her, her sister, her niece, and her daughter the courage to embrace challenges without fear of failure and to persevere.

We extend our best wishes to Claire in her new role as Chief Executive of Breast Cancer Now when she starts the role in September and we look forward to continuing to work with Claire, as an advocate of Sydenham High School, believing in empowering girls to forge their own path without fear.
