On Wednesday 24 April, our Year 13 History of Art students completed their last trip at the Royal Academy and British Museum.

They visited ‘Entangled Pasts 1768-Now’, an exhibition that explores the complex and often difficult relationship between the RA and British colonial history. The students had an excellent opportunity to see firsthand several works by contemporary artists who they have studied for the new ‘Identities’ section of the A Level – including key works by Sonia Boyce, Yinka Shonibare and The Singh Twins. They finished the afternoon in the Africa Gallery of the British Museum to get up close to the Benin Bronzes, the looted treasures of the ancient kingdom of Benin which are also central to our A Level studies – giving the students a valuable opportunity to consider the historical and contemporary narratives around these much-contested objects.
