Young Citizens Mock Trial Competition London Heat

edit

On Saturday 20 April, 18 Year 10 and Year 12 pupils took part in the Independent Schools Mock Trial Competition 2024 run by Young Citizens. The competition aims to give young people an unparalleled insight into the judicial system, its venues, and the work of senior legal professionals. After months of preparation our students were ready to present their case in court.  Since September the pupils had been working on two real life criminal cases, one on climate change and one on a breach of privacy on online data – two pertinent issues to our pupils in 2024. They worked hard preparing opening and closing speeches as barristers, perfecting their answers for cross examination as witnesses and learning their lines as court clerk and usher. All pupils have shown commitment over the last two terms and performed very well on the day in three tough rounds. Although, we did not make it through to the national final, but they had an amazing day, experiencing a court case in a real Crown court and received some excellent advice on a career in law from some very experienced London judges. A big well done to the pupils for the hard work and commitment they have shown over the last 7 months and the courage to stand up and take part which they showed on the day. Thank you, Mrs Ellison and Ms Cross, to provide this wonderful opportunity for our pupils.
