Model United Nation Assembly

edit

This week in our assembly, Mrs Dracup explored the history and purpose of the United Nations with us. Founded in 1945 after World War II, the UN Charter was signed by 50 countries in hopes of preventing another global conflict.

While the United Nations continues its work in various areas, it’s essential for us to understand its role in governing the world, which includes:

  • Maintaining international peace and security
  • Protecting human rights
  • Delivering humanitarian aid
  • Supporting sustainable development and climate action
  • Upholding international law

Model United Nations (MUN) serves as a simulation of the real United Nations. Participants, known as delegates, are assigned countries to represent in MUN conferences. Delegates engage in debates on key global issues within committees, conducting research and formulating positions aligned with their represented country’s stance.

Joining MUN provides pupils with valuable skills such as teamwork, leadership, diplomacy, research, public speaking, and improvisation.

At Sydenham, our MUN committee is diligently preparing for the GDST MUN Conference by the end of May. We are excited to witness our pupils flourish through this enriching opportunity!
